On June 27, 2026, the Visceral Manipulation (VM) Level 1+2 International Certification Course of the Barral Institute USA, hosted by Jianheng Academy and supported by Theratools professional rehabilitation tools, successfully concluded in Zhengzhou.

The course specially invited Paolo Ricci, an officially certified instructor of the Barral Institute USA, to deliver on-site teaching. Based on an internationally standardised teaching system, it provided 9 days of systematic theoretical and practical training for rehabilitation practitioners across the country.

What Participants Gained

After the course, the participants described their biggest takeaway as "a paradigm shift". What they gained went far beyond several sets of manual techniques; they acquired an entirely new clinical philosophy:

Broadened diagnostic perspective: They learned to move beyond the outdated approach of "treating the head for a headache and the foot for foot pain", and trace the root cause of 80% of musculoskeletal pain back to abnormal visceral motility.

Refined tactile sensitivity: Mastery of the essence of "listening" — using the hands to perceive the subtle primary and secondary respiratory rhythms of different organs, allowing the body itself to reveal the site of the lesion.

Greater clinical confidence: Many participants began applying VM techniques in clinical practice right after VM Level 1. By the end of VM Level 2, they were proficient in managing complex global fascial restrictions and witnessed rapid improvements in their patients’ symptoms first-hand.

Highlights of the Course

This series of courses is highly acclaimed for its core highlight: the perfect integration of non-invasiveness and a holistic perspective.

Authentic international heritage: The curriculum is fully imported from the Barral Institute USA. Delivered by Paolo Ricci, an officially certified instructor with over 15 years of manual therapy experience, it ensures participants learn the original, authentic techniques.

The signature skill of "listening": The course rejects forceful compression. It emphasises perceiving visceral rhythms with extremely gentle pressure, releasing restricted fascia through "liquid osteopathic manipulation", avoiding surgical risks to deliver precise and long-lasting effects.

Addressing problems at their root: Live demonstrations and extensive hands-on practice allow participants to directly experience that releasing visceral restrictions can immediately improve musculoskeletal pain, digestive function, emotional wellbeing and even reproductive system issues, achieving true whole-person rehabilitation from the inside out.

Course Review

1)Core Content of VM Level 1

VM Level 1 serves as the foundational module of the course, designed to help participants build a complete technical knowledge system. It systematically covers the definition, physiological principles and core logic of Visceral Manipulation, establishes the core philosophy of “listening to the body and facilitating self-healing”, and clarifies the essential relationship between normal visceral motility and human health.

The course thoroughly breaks down the six core functions of VM, analyses how visceral fascial restrictions trigger musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction throughout the body, addresses frequently encountered clinical challenges, dispels misconceptions in traditional rehabilitation, and builds standardised clinical reasoning.

The hands-on sessions focus on mobilisation, compression and stretching techniques for the fascia of basic thoracic and abdominal organs. Participants learn to perceive bodily rhythms, identify sites of fascial restriction and distinguish abnormal tissue tension. This ensures they master foundational skills and can independently manage superficial visceral fascial conditions.

2)Core Content of VM Level 2

VM Level 2 is the advanced module. Building upon VM Level 1, it deepens and upgrades the curriculum with a focus on practical application for complex clinical conditions. Combined with authoritative experimental data, the course systematically covers specialised management protocols of Visceral Manipulation for lower back pain, dyspepsia, gastroesophageal reflux, circulatory disorders, ureteral and renal conditions, and abnormal gallbladder drainage.

The course innovatively explains the interactive mechanisms linking visceral structures to brain emotion and the limbic system. Drawing on findings from authoritative collaborative research, it verifies how visceral modulation improves cerebral circulation and emotional states, helping participants develop advanced rehabilitation thinking for integrated mind-body treatment.

In addition, the course elaborates on advanced techniques including reproductive function restoration, immune enhancement, and resolution of refractory musculoskeletal pain. It refines deep fascial release techniques for the pelvis, thorax, abdomen and mesentery. Supported by extensive clinical case reviews, it corrects practical pitfalls and comprehensively strengthens participants’ capabilities in root-cause assessment and precise intervention, enabling them to independently manage complex visceral fascial dysfunction.

Participants' Feedback

Authentic voices bear witness to the power of healing. After the course concluded, we received a flood of enthusiastic feedback:

“I used to feel helpless when dealing with recurrent low back pain. After taking VM Level 2, I learned that the root cause may lie in impaired motility of the kidneys or colon. This technique truly opened another door for me in rehabilitation.”

“Paolo’s manual techniques are incredibly refined. During his demonstrations, I could feel my organs truly responding to his hands. This sense of gentle care for both body and mind is what modern medicine lacks.”

Closing Remarks

As Jean Pierre Barral, the founder of Visceral Manipulation, stated: “The goal of Visceral Manipulation is to create, coordinate and increase proprioceptive communication in order to enhance its internal mechanism for better health.”

Over these 8 days of study, every participant has become a facilitator of this "internal communication".

We have not only learned how to restore normal motility to displaced organs, but also gained a profound understanding: the human body is a sophisticated instrument. Every pain is a deep distress signal, and our hands serve as the medium to transmit the light of healing.

Only when we truly learn to listen to what the body tells us and embrace those injured areas can we awaken the innate self-healing capacity of the human body, allowing health to bloom naturally from the deepest part of life.

Learning knows no bounds. Jianheng Academy will continue to accompany you on your journey. May we all bring this gentle yet powerful strength into clinical practice and benefit more people in need.

Let the viscera speak, let the body heal itself — this is the meaning of VM. See you at our next course!
