In the Central Plains in April, academic learning blossoms. From April 3 to 7, 2026, the Original German Schroth 3D Scoliosis ISST International Certification Course Part I, hosted by Jianheng Academy, successfully concluded in Zhengzhou.
Over these five days of intensive training, physiotherapists and rehabilitation practitioners from all over the country gathered together. Under the guidance of Charlene Fan, they gained an in-depth understanding of the century-old German Schroth Method.

Core Course Highlights

1、Authentic German Curriculum System, 1:1 Reproduction of the International Programme: The course strictly follows the official syllabus of the ISST Training Academy, aligned with the curriculum of the German headquarters, to ensure participants learn the most authentic and cutting-edge Schroth Method techniques.

2、Deep Integration of Theory and Practical Training, Avoiding Pure Theoretical Learning: The 5-day course balances theoretical lectures and hands-on practice. It covers basic manual techniques, case analysis, group discussions and one-on-one instructor feedback, enabling participants to apply the knowledge directly and achieve effective clinical results.

3、Led by a Senior Expert with Hands-On Tutoring: The entire course is delivered by Charlene Fan, official ISST Instructor for China. With extensive clinical and teaching experience, Charlene Fan is an international member of SOSORT and the principal investigator of multiple provincial research projects. Having specialised in scoliosis rehabilitation for many years, she provides hands-on guidance to help all participants fully grasp key concepts and master core skills.

4、Premium Small-Class Teaching for an Immersive Learning Experience: The course has strict enrolment limits for small-group training. Instructors have ample time to track each participant’s progress, answer questions individually and correct manual techniques, so as to maximise learning outcomes.

5、Globally Recognised Certification to Enhance Professional Competitiveness: After completing Part I, participants may progress to Part II. Upon passing the assessments, they will obtain the internationally recognised ISST certification, become qualified certified Schroth therapists, and expand their career development opportunities.

Course Review

This ISST Part I course strictly follows the original German curriculum system. It progresses step by step from foundational theories to practical skills, helping participants build a complete knowledge framework for the Schroth Method.

Day 1: Lay the Foundation and Understand the Core Principles of the Schroth Method

Content includes the definition and classification of scoliosis, radiological assessment, core concepts of the Schroth Method, treatment charts and positioning, as well as hands-on shoulder traction (ST) practice. This builds participants’ fundamental understanding of scoliosis and the Schroth Method, establishing a solid basis for further learning.

Day 2: Advanced Learning – Master Core Breathing and Assessment Skills

Building on Day 1, participants dive deeper into corrective breathing, postural adjustments, pelvic correction and psoas muscle coordination. They complete physical examinations and practical assessments, and integrate theory with initial clinical practice through hands-on shoulder counter-traction (SCT) training and case analysis.

Day 3: Deepen Practical Training – Mobilisation Techniques & Home Exercise Programming

Learn auxiliary grip techniques and mobilisation methods, as well as side-lying and supine exercises. Focus on the principles of designing home exercise programmes. Deepen understanding of the clinical application of the Schroth Method through pelvic fixation practice and video analysis.

Day 4: Integrated Learning & Advanced Clinical Planning

Progress to seated and standing corrective exercises. Through treatment planning, case discussions, pelvic control practice and group work on home exercise design, participants consolidate fragmented knowledge into a complete clinical framework and improve practical clinical skills.

Day 5: Comprehensive Assessment & Course CompletionThe course concludes with integrated practical training, participant skill presentations and feedback, followed by a formal summary and certificate presentation, marking the successful completion of the 5-day training programme.

What is Schroth ISST

Scoliosis is a complex three-dimensional spinal deformity, and its treatment has long been a key challenge in the field of rehabilitation. As public awareness of spinal health grows, the demand for non-surgical management continues to rise.
Among various conservative treatment approaches, the Schroth Method, developed by Katharina Schroth in 1920, has been recognised globally as the gold standard for conservative scoliosis treatment due to its evidence-based 3D corrective exercise principles and proven clinical outcomes.
The ISST (International Schroth Three-Dimensional Scoliosis Therapy) taught in this course is the official international standardised version of the original German Schroth Method. Rather than basic posture correction alone, it systematically addresses spinal curvature, vertebral rotation and sagittal plane imbalance through 3D corrective techniques, specific corrective breathing training, postural control strategies and structured home exercise programmes.
This is why an increasing number of rehabilitation therapists pursue formal ISST training. It is not only an essential tool to upgrade clinical expertise, but also the standard pathway to delivering scientific, effective and standardised care for scoliosis patients.

Participant Feedback

The five-day course was more than just knowledge sharing; it was a transformation of clinical thinking. Many participants said the course completely changed their understanding of scoliosis treatment:

"I used to feel confused when treating scoliosis patients. After learning the ISST method, I realise every manual technique and every corrective breath is evidence-based. I now feel much more confident when providing treatment!"

"Teacher Charlene Fan’s teaching is incredibly detailed. She explains every aspect clearly, from theories to hands-on practice. The group discussions and case analyses have greatly helped me master clinical application!"

"As rehabilitation therapists, it has been absolutely worthwhile to systematically learn this internationally recognised gold-standard therapy! It has enhanced our professional capabilities and enabled us to provide more scientific and effective treatment for patients."

From careful note-taking in class, repeated practice during hands-on training, to confident demonstrations in assessments, every participant demonstrated their passion for rehabilitation and relentless pursuit of professional excellence through their actions.
